The Building Department’s core functions include:

All new contractors must register with the City Of Macclenny before permitting can begin. (see Forms and Checklist at top-right)
Permitting
The Building Department provides permitting, plan reviews and inspection services within the city for compliance with the state mandated Florida Fire Prevention and Building Codes. Application of these codes ensures that the City Of Macclenny is a sustainable community and that the public safety of our citizens and visitors is a priority.
Inspectors are certified and licensed in multi-disciplines for both building trades and fire inspection services.
Permits are required to construct, enlarge, alter, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building.
The following are some of the items that require permits:
- Installation of heating and air conditioning.
- Plumbing where fixtures are added or replaced
- Electrical where new or additional wiring is installed
- Irrigation systems (back-flow prevention device and rain sensor heads required on most systems)
- Driveways and culverts (minimum culvert diameter is 18 inches)
- Fences
- Sheds/Carports
- Roofs
- Door & Window Replacement

The following inspections for construction are required:
- T-Pole
- Footer
- Rough Plumbing
- Slab
- Lintel
- Sheathing
- Frame/Strapping
- Plumbing Top Out
- Rough Electrical & Mechanical
- Insulation
- Final Roofing
- Drywall Inspection (Commercial Only)
- Permanent Service – All Electrical complete & safe.
- Water & Sewer Services
- Finals (CO)
